Marketing communications covers the selection and application of
the main communication tools available to an organisation in pursuit of
its marketing goals. This work is often carried out by specialist
agencies and involves both strategic thinking and the development of
creative solutions. This calls for a blend of research-based knowledge
with the practice of high level, often extremely creative, skills.
The ultimate aim of the course is to enhance individual career advancement prospects through knowledge of how to apply academic learning to best marketing practice.
The course covers the main marketing communication techniques and
provides you with a sufficient foundation in marketing to enable you to
work easily with people involved throughout the marketing management
process.
This MA Marketing Communications course is designed for marketing professionals and those who are aspiring to become marketing managers.
Entry Requirements:
In order to be admitted to the course, candidates will normally need to hold one of the following two sets of qualifications:
In addition, students whose first language is not English will
normally be expected to have passed IELTS, or equivalent, with a
minimum score of 6.5. The required level at TOEFL is 600 or 250 for
the computer based test.
Within this framework, particularly in reference to 5, above, full
consideration is given to applications for Accredited Prior Learning
(APL). This is also considered for students who have partially
completed a relevant Masters programme in another country or who may
have the CIM Postgraduate Diploma. The student’s prior learning claim
is mapped against the learning outcomes of the course. The decision on
a claim rests with the Admissions Tutor or Course Leader, subject to
confirmation by the Dean of School, Head of Department, or a nominee
and ratification by the APL Board. Students must enrol on the course
before a claim for APL can be considered.
A three month, part time, internship was successfully trialled for Marketing Communications students in 2007. This is to be continued and offers organisations access to our students in order to involve them in marketing communications campaigns, marketing planning and strategic development processes, thereby putting their knowledge to practical use.
This MA Marketing Communications course is designed to cover the following areas:
You are required to take the Chartered Institute of Marketing's Introductory Certificate in Marketing to provide a firm grounding in the basics of marketing at the start of the course. This gives you membership of CIM during your study period.
Fees 2010: £14,300 (+CIM fee)
